Independent American record label based out of New York, NY, founded in May, 1977. Label Code: LC 5391 / LC 05391 Originally independent & self-distributing, the label was founded by Kevin Eggers as a successor to his previous record labels Utopia (2) and Poppy. It was later owned by Gramavision and distributed by Rhino/Atlantic in the 1990s. Tomato became independent again in 2002, after Gramavision was purchased by Rykodisc. One of Tomato's most famous releases was the original pressing of the 1977 recording of Philip Glass's opera '32996'.
