Within the first year Pickwick decided to hault and Pro Arte. Don Johnson, Pickwick's vice-president and manager of those labels, did not want to give them up so easily. He resigned his post, formed a new firm called , and embarked on a series of negotiations that eventually won him the Pro Arte and Quintessence lines, plus the pertinent licensing agreements.
