In 1999 Alan McGee ditched Creation Records and sold the remnants to Sony. He then set up Poptones as an internet-only label. This soon developed into a "proper" indie label releasing physical product. McGee wound Poptones down in the Summer of 2007; "I got bored with Poptones. I loved it on one level but couldn't justify owning artists copyrights in the new digital age so am now running it down to concentrate on 4 maybe 5 management clients..."
