About

NOTE: This page is for the Swedish company that owned the Polar label, not the label itself. Any releases that carry the Polar logo should also be added to the Polar page. Polar Music AB was a Swedish record company, founded in 1963 by Stig Anderson & Bengt Bernhag as a part of the Sweden Music publishing company. After ABBA's success with Eurovision, the company grew to International status, as Stig licensed his most successful group on the label, to different labels around the globe. Polar Music AB was restructured in ca. 1977 and was henceforth known formally as Polar Music International. Sweden Music was sold to PolyGram in 1989. In 1999 Seagram bought the company and merged it into Universal Music Group. The company still handles the material by the original Polar signings (including ABBA), and it's overseen by the Universal Music AB marketing director. Name variations as found on this profile: - Polar Music International AB - Polar Music Intern. AB - Polar Music Int'l AB Please, consider also Polar Music International, Polar Music International B.V., or Polar Music International Ltd. if stated that way on the release.
