About

MaG is a Peruvian label based in Lima. It was founded by Manuel Antonio Guerrero, who used his initials for the label's name. It was founded on June 8, 1953 after Guerrero had recorded a Peruvian Criolla band in the studios of Radio San Cristóbal, where he was working as an engineer. He soon after opened his first studio () where a very successful career in the world of music started. In the beginning he recorded many Peruvian groups such as maestro Lucho Macedo and his Sonora, as well international orchestras that made obligatory stopovers in Lima in the 1950s due to the nocturnal movement that seized the elegant Lima nights to the rhythm of guarachas, mambos and boleros. Subsequently Guerrero bought a small factory with two pressing machines for records which grew up to 15 pressing machines for 7" and LPs at a later point, including a modern recording studio and office facilities. MAG signed licensing deals with various labels all around the world to import international hits for the Peruvian market. In the late 1960s Guerrero and MAG were responsible for many recordings of the Peruvian rock scene such as , , or . Guerrero and his company also manufactured records for other Peruvian labels, and distributed international hits via . In the 1970s MAG focused more on Tropical releases and was throughout its existence one of the most important labels from Peru. In 2021 MAG was acquired by Spanish record company Distrolux S.L., also owner of Vampisoul and Munster Records. May also appear as: Discos Mag. For company credits use .
