The Island masters series began in the 1980s. Polygram started to re-release good selling Island records in a "Mid-Price" series with the IMCD prefix, starting with IMCD 1. Releases before the PolyGram takeover do not have the IMCD catalogue number prefix. IMCD 1 to IMCD 71 were first issued in 1989, IMCD 72 to ... from 1990 on. In 2000, the label was re-modeled and renamed to Island Remasters. Releases came with higher print quality of the cover, additional slip cases, booklets, additional tracks and with cover and label prints using replicas of the original LP releases.
