Division of Island Records, active from 1995 to 1999, specializing in black/urban contemporary music. President: Hiriam Hicks. Island Black Music was distributed by I.L.S., an independent/low-budget music distributor for parent company PolyGram. In 1998, after PolyGram was acquired by Seagram and merged into Universal Music Group, Island Black, alongside Mercury's R&B and hip-hop divisions, were folded into Def Jam Recordings as a result of the merger of the Island Def Jam Music Group. IBM's remaining artists, Dru Hill and Kelly Price, went on to record for Def Jam's R&B subsidiary, Def Soul.
