De Zilvervloot

Sub-label of BASF

1973–1975

About

In 1958 came a law (Jeugdspaarwet) to encourage Dutch youth to save money. This enabled young people from 15 to 20 years annually save a certain amount on a Zilvervloot account. The Government gave a premium of 10% of the savings (deposit + interest). In 1961 there was a Zilvervloot advertising single -Wat zou je doen / Spaar me- with a logo of a sailing ship, exact the same as the label of this record company. Nothing to find about this label, strange, but I don't think it has anything to do with the saving account. It is an extensive catalog, but Zilvervloot releases are hard to find. It is purely based on Dutch language. The catalog numbers are interspersed with releases of BASF because the singles from Zilvervloot are included in the BASF series. It seems that most of the Dutch recordings by BASF were settled at Zilvervloot. Artists of this label regularly made an appearance in Dutch TV shows as "Op Losse Groeven" and "Op Volle Toeren". Special programs with oft a little bit poor performances. Marc Winter, Barend Servet and De Specials were successful on Zilvervloot. Lee Towers had his first (and last?) Dutch record as Leen Huizer.
