This series was successively published by or under the following labels : (approx. 1997-1998) or (approx. 1999-2000) (approx. 2001-2005) The cover illustrations were made by , renowned French comic strip artist and caricaturist and jazz fan. Each release consists of a 2-CD compilation, typically 40 tracks, in a double jewel box housed in a cardboard slip case. Early releases did not have the Cabu Masters of Jazz logo, but the general design and layout concept were kept throughout. The series is not to be confused with by the same labels, which has a more comprehensive approach to artists (typically several releases for each artist, sometimes complete works for a period of time). In most cases, Cabu Masters of Jazz tracks are drawn from the series. It is also not to be confused with , also illustrated by with colors added. series has some covers illustrated by Cabu, some releases being close to this series.
