Stefan Lessard

Stefan Lessard is a bassist and founding member of Dave Matthews Band, the influential rock ensemble formed in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1991. As a core part of the band’s rhythm section alongside drummer Carter Beauford, Lessard has been instrumental in shaping DMB’s signature sound—a dynamic blend of rock, jazz, and world music influences that has defined the band’s studio albums and legendary live performances since their RCA Records debut.

With Dave Matthews Band, Lessard has contributed to numerous platinum-selling releases and helped establish the group as pioneers of improvisational rock music. His bass work provides the foundational groove for the band’s complex arrangements and extended jam sessions, which have become hallmarks of their live shows and studio recordings.
