Portuguese violist and composer João Camões blends classical training with experimental and improvised music approaches. Based in Lisbon, he has developed a distinctive physical technique that merges traditional conservatory discipline with contemporary creative practices, working across multiple collaborative ensembles that explore the intersection of classical instrumentation and avant-garde composition.
Camões leads several ongoing projects including the Open Field string trio with Marcelo dos Reis and José Miguel Pereira, and earnear, a chamber ensemble featuring Rodrigo Pinheiro and Miguel Mira. His work spans concert performances, workshops, and theatrical compositions, establishing him as a versatile voice within Portugal's experimental music community. He has collaborated with notable improvisers and contemporary musicians, contributing to Lisbon's dynamic creative music scene.
