I.O.I

I.O.I was a South Korean pop group that emerged from the 2016 reality competition *Produce 101*, debuting with the EP *Chrysalis* in May 2016. The eleven-member ensemble brought a polished approach to contemporary K-pop, blending synth-pop and dance-oriented production with vocal-driven arrangements that defined the era’s mainstream electronic pop sound.

Despite their brief active period of less than a year, I.O.I made a notable impact on the K-pop landscape through strategically released tracks and sub-unit projects. Their work showcased the potential of collaborative pop production, influencing how entertainment companies approached temporary group formations and electronic-pop styling in the mid-2010s Korean music industry.
