About

Emerging from Leipzig's underground electronic scene in 1984, Die Art pioneered experimental and post-punk sounds during the GDR era. Operating under restrictive conditions, the band distributed their early work through privately produced cassettes—a defiant act that caught the attention of BBC Radio 1's John Peel in 1989. Their breakthrough came with the 1990 album *FEAR*, a compilation drawing from three years of underground recordings that finally gave the band official release status after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Between 1990 and 2001, Die Art released nine studio albums alongside various EPs and singles, establishing themselves as influential figures in German electronic and experimental music. Their prolific output during this period helped define the sound of reunified Germany's electronic underground. After disbanding in 2001, the group reformed in 2007 and has since released three additional albums, continuing to develop their distinctive approach to electronic composition and performance.
