About

Pioneer of the West Coast Hi-NRG and disco scene, Mike Lewis was one of the most influential club DJs of the 1970s and 80s. Known for his work across legendary Los Angeles venues including Circus Disco, Studio One, and Probe, Lewis shaped the sound of West Coast dance music through his innovative DJ sets and remix work. His contributions to major remix services—including Disconet, Hot Tracks, and Razormaid—helped define the remixing landscape of the era, while his association with Moby Dick Records cemented his role in the Hi-NRG movement.

Recognized as a tastemaker and industry authority, Lewis served as Billboard magazine's disco columnist from 1979-1980 and earned the California Disco DJ Association's Award of Merit for Best Disco DJ in 1979. His influence extended beyond Los Angeles to San Francisco, where he held residencies at the iconic Trocadero Transfer (1980-1983) and The Detour (1981-1984), establishing himself as a key figure in connecting and elevating both regional club scenes during dance music's most formative period.
