About
# Paul Martin
A veteran A&R executive and tastemaker with over twenty-five years of experience shaping electronic and dance music, Paul Martin has been instrumental in launching some of the genre's most influential acts. As co-runner of Talkin' Loud Records alongside Radio 6 DJ Gilles Peterson, Martin signed and developed pivotal artists including Roni Size/Reprazent, whose landmark 1997 Mercury Prize-winning album *New Forms* remains the best-selling drum and bass record of all time. Under his stewardship, Talkin' Loud became a powerhouse label, boasting six Mercury Prize nominations and multiple Gold, Silver, and Platinum-selling acts including Omar, MJ Cole, and 4hero.
Beyond his early success in retail at London's legendary Black Market record shop, Martin has continued to shape electronic music through subsequent A&R roles at Gut Records and V2, working with diverse artists spanning electronic, garage, and alternative genres. His deep understanding of artist development and music industry infrastructure has made him a sought-after consultant and educator, currently leading the Music Performance Management programme at Buckinghamshire New University since 2010.
