About

Los Angeles producer Greg Broussard, performing as Egyptian Lover, pioneered the Electronic Boogie sound that defined West Coast electro in the 1980s. Emerging in the mid-'80s after the New York and Miami electro scenes were already established, tracks like "Egypt, Egypt," "Computer Love," and "Dance" became staples in breakdance clubs and remain touchstones of early electro production. His early work showcased experimental synthesis and drum programming that would influence generations of producers, from Autechre to I-F, who cite his innovative approach to the genre's foundational aesthetics.

Beyond his solo output, Egyptian Lover has been instrumental in shaping West Coast electro infrastructure, founding multiple labels including Freak Beat and Egyptian Empire, and collaborating with Uncle Jamm's Army. After a hiatus, he returned with the compilation "Pyramix" and the full-length "Back From the Tomb," continuing to refine his signature funky electro style. His catalog remains essential listening for anyone exploring electronic music's first wave and its lasting impact on contemporary production.
