James Black is the alias of Scottish deep house pioneer Lex Blackmore, a producer and DJ who has made significant contributions to the deep house movement. Operating primarily under this moniker, Blackmore crafted a distinctive sound characterized by warm, soulful textures and hypnotic grooves that defined much of the genre's aesthetic during the 1990s.

The project achieved widespread recognition with the 1997 single "Remember Me," a deep house classic that showcased Blackmore's ability to blend emotive melodies with driving, dancefloor-ready production. Beyond his work as James Black, Blackmore established himself as a label curator, founding the influential Gemini imprint, which became an important platform for deep house releases and further solidified his role in shaping the genre's sonic landscape.
