About
The Happy Family emerged from Edinburgh’s post-punk scene in 1981, bringing together literature student Nick Currie with three former members of influential local act Josef K. The group carved out a distinctive niche in early 1980s electronic music, blending post-punk sensibilities with experimental electronic production—a sound that presaged the synth-driven innovations of the decade.
Though the group’s initial run was brief, it marked a crucial chapter in Currie’s prolific career. He would go on to record extensively under the moniker Momus, becoming a prolific experimental electronic artist and producer known for genre-defying work spanning electronic pop, industrial, and avant-garde territories. Currie remains active today, continuing to push boundaries in electronic music production and composition.
