Kato Hideki is a pioneering figure in experimental electronic and noise music, best known for his instrumental work within Tokyo's avant-garde scene during the late 1980s and early 1990s. As a founding member of Ground Zero alongside Otomo Yoshihide, he helped define the Japanese noise aesthetic while collaborating with influential experimentalists including Tatsuya Yoshida and Yamatsuka Eye. His distinctive approach to composition and sound design established him as a key architect of the era's most uncompromising electronic work.
Based in Brooklyn since 1992, Kato continues to develop his sonic vocabulary across multiple projects, including his bands Player Piano and Bass Army. His contributions to noise, industrial, and experimental electronic music remain influential within underground and avant-garde circles, bridging Japanese and American experimental traditions.
