About
Swedish synth-pop pioneers Secret Service emerged in 1979, blending new wave sensibilities with synthesizer-driven pop that resonated across Europe and beyond. The band’s early hits—including the chart-topping “Oh Susie” (which reached #1 in 29 countries), “Ten O’clock Postman,” and the synth-heavy “Flash in the Night”—established them as key figures in the Scandinavian electronic pop movement. Keyboardists Tim Norell and Ulf Wahlberg crafted the band’s signature sound, with Norell serving as primary songwriter throughout their career.
After a hiatus in the late 1980s, Secret Service members pursued influential production work, with Håkansson and Norell becoming renowned songwriters and producers—notably establishing Stockholm Records as a venture with Polygram, producing acts like Army of Lovers and The Cardigans. The band reunited in 2006 for live performances and touring, releasing the retrospective compilation *Top Secret – Greatest Hits* (2000) and later *The Lost Box* (2012), which showcased unreleased material from their archives. Recent releases including “GO ON” (2019) and “Secret Mission” (2020) demonstrate the band’s continued creative output, with Anders Hansson’s modern production arrangements bringing their synth-pop legacy into contemporary electronic music contexts.
